My name is Angie, I’m 22, and I’ve been overweight pretty much my whole life. Even when I wasn’t overweight, I always thought I was just because I was so much taller than everyone, and I hit puberty pretty early. I was that weird 11 year old standing at 5’8” with a “C” cup…made for some pretty awkward times. I’m 5’10” now and sadly everything else got bigger too. I’ve always been pretty active but I also would eat whatever I wanted, never twice thinking that a giant plate of fettuccine alfredo could be bad.
Senior year of high school I joined the swim team and loved it. It was the first time I steadily did something and I ended up losing a lot of weight, but I still ate crap. I was at my smallest- 212lbs, but knew nothing about healthy eating or strength training. In college I tried to continue working out and swimming, but so many other things came up and it was never a priority of mine so I just didn’t put in the effort.
By the time I finished college I was weighing in at 255lbs, unknowingly (and didn’t really care) eating 3000+ calories a day while doing absolutely nothing active. I was disgusted. As soon as college ended and I got into cooking my own food again, I dropped 15lbs fast, like in a month. That was in December. In February, I decided to join a gym and do this for real. I made changes really slowly, like eating a piece of fruit for breakfast, or making sure to have at least 1 serving of vegetables everyday. Soon I was incorporating fruits into every meal or at least snack, and working out 30-45 minutes a day. Once at the gym, I started looking into strength training, realizing that combined with cardio, I’ll burn more fat, and faster. I’ve been going strong for 6+ months, with a little plateau in July, but I’m back at it again. I’m hoping to hit 165lbs and be happy.
